DRY AIR: We expect sunshine in full force across Alabama today and tomorrow as the warming trend continues. We project a high in the mid 60s today, followed by mid to mid 70s tomorrow. Delightful weather for the beginning of spring; the vernal equinox is today at 11:57 a.m. CT. This is the day the sun is directly over the equator, and we have approximately 12 hours of daylight and 12 hours of darkness.

WEEKEND WEATHER CHANGES: The weather stays mild Saturday, and it still looks a large part of the day will be dry. The high will be up in the mid 70s with a mix of sun and clouds, and for now we will mention only a small risk of a shower. Showers become more likely late Saturday night as a cold front pushes through.

Sunday will be cloudy, cool, and wet at times. Doubtful we get out of the 50s with cold air advection. It won’t rain all day, and the rain won’t be especially heavy… amounts will be around 1/4 inch.

NEXT WEEK: The front will remain nearly stationary over South Alabama, and Monday will be cloudy and cool with daytime temperatures only in the 50s. And, it looks like we will need to hang on to some risk of light rain over the southern two-thirds of the state.

A stronger cold front moves in here early Tuesday morning, and it should set the stage for a significant late season freeze by early Wednesday. Sure looks like we are headed for the 20s…

A warming trend begins later in the week Thursday afternoon. See the Weather Xtreme video for the maps, graphics, and details.

GULF COAST WEATHER: Look for sunny days and fair nights from Panama City west to Gulf Shores through Saturday. The sky will be mostly cloudy Sunday and Monday with occasional showers. Then, dry weather Tuesday through Friday of next week.

The sea water temperature at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab this morning is 61 degrees; highs on the immediate coast will be in the low to mid 60s through the weekend, but 70s are likely just a few miles inland.

It is important to note that next week will feature rather chilly nights on the coast; lows will drop into the 40s for mid-week.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
