Severe Thunderstorm Warning Tuscaloosa County until 10 PM

UPDATE: There is a growing concern of significant wind damage will be possible with this storm. Power outages are being reported as well as trees being blown down. Structural damage is also being reported around Elrod.

An intense storm is moving into Tuscaloosa County from Pickens County. The warning covers much of the county and includes the cities of Tuscaloosa, Northport, Samantha, and Brookwood. This also includes the campus of the University of Alabama.

Travel along U.S. 82, 69, and 11 will be impacted, as well as Interstate 20/59, highway 69 and 216. This storm has produced hail of 1.25″ in diameter over Mississippi and continues to show a very strong updraft that will support large hail. Damaging winds are a threat as well with this storm.

* AT 906 PM CDT…THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE INDICATED A SEVERE
THUNDERSTORM CAPABLE OF PRODUCING QUARTER SIZE HAIL…AND
DESTRUCTIVE WINDS IN EXCESS OF 70 MPH. THIS STORM WAS LOCATED 7
MILES SOUTHWEST OF GORDO…AND MOVING EAST AT 40 MPH.

NORTHPORT…TUSCALOOSA…HOLT…COKER…LAKE LURLEEN STATE PARK…
SHELTON STATE COMMUNITY COLLEGE…TUSCALOOSA AMPHITHEATER AND
