A Whole Lot of Rainfall

| April 7, 2014 @ 1:34 pm

It was a very wet night and morning across the state as torrential rains caused widespread flooding across the state. Rivers and streams are spilling out of their banks as copious amounts of run-off has filled them to the brink.

Looking a rainfall totals from this storm system shows most locations across Central Alabama received on average 2-4 inches of rain. However, there were totals of over 6 inches, especially on the southern side of the Birmingham metro, where a heavier band of rain did set up for a while this morning. Some of the bigger cities totals: Birmingham 4.36″, Tuscaloosa 3.29″, Anniston 3.41″, Shelby County Airport 3.77″, Montgomery 3.32″.

The good news is the rain is almost completely over with in Alabama and any flooding that is occurring should subside this afternoon and into the evening. We will have to continue to monitor the rivers across the state as many of them are under flood warnings as all the run-off makes its way into them.
