Showers Late Today/Tonight

An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player on the right sidebar of the blog. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

COOLER: Most communities are in the 40s early this morning, but we do note Haleyville and Muscle Shoals are in the upper 30s just before daybreak. Today will be mostly cloudy with a high in the mid 60s; the average high for April 8 is 72 degrees.

SHOWERS TONIGHT: A deep upper trough will swing through here tonight and bring the risk of showers to our state. The main window for showers will come from about 4:00 p.m. to midnight, and thankfully the rain won’t be too heavy with amounts under 1/2 inch, so no flooding issues this time.

Due to the very cold air aloft, some thunder is possible in spots, but no severe weather since there is no surface based instability.

TOMORROW/THURSDAY: Sunshine returns tomorrow, but the weather stays cool with a high in the mid to upper 60s. Thursday morning will be cold, but at this point it looks like the frost potential will be limited to the traditionally colder spots over North Alabama, where mid 30s are possible. Most communities will see a low around 40 degrees at daybreak Thursday. Then, we warm into the 70s Thursday with a bright sunny sky.

FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: Some great spring weather. Sunny warm days, fair nights. Highs in the 75 to 80 degree range.

NEXT WEEK: A dynamic weather system will bring the next round of showers and storms Monday; a little too early to determine if this will be a severe weather or flood threat, but something to watch in coming days. Then, much colder air drops in here Tuesday and Wednesday, and models are hinting at another run at a frost/freeze threat. See the Weather Xtreme video for the maps, graphics, and details.

AT THE BEACH: A few showers are likely on the coast tonight, then mostly sunny days and fair nights tomorrow through the weekend (just a small risk of a shower Sunday afternoon). Highs on the immediate coast will stay in the 60s because of the cooler ocean water, but 70s are likely just few miles inland. The sea water temperature this morning at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab is 65 degrees.

WEATHER RADIO PROGRAMMING: We will be at the Publix in Oxford tomorrow from 3:30 until 6:30… if you need your weather radio programmed, have questions, or need to buy one, come see us.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. We will produce this week’s show Thursday night at 8:30p CT.
