WELCOME TO MAY: The average high in Birmingham will rise from 78 today to 84 by the end of the month. The average rain for the month is 4.83?, and it is the final month of the spring tornado season. Hottest temperature recorded during the month of May is 99 degrees, measured May 28, 1962, and May 29, 1898. Coldest on record for May is 36 degrees, recorded on May 4, 1971.

TODAY/TOMORROW: We expect a mix of sun and clouds today and tomorrow; today’s high will be around 70, with low 70s tomorrow. The far southeast tip of the state (around Dothan) could see some rain tomorrow, but the northern half of the state will be dry.

WARMER WEEKEND: After a chilly morning early Saturday with lows in the low to mid 40s, we expect a high in the mid 70s Saturday, followed by low to mid 80s Sunday. Should be hard to find a cloud in the sky over the weekend.

TALLADEGA WEATHER: Needless to say, perfect weather for race weekend. No rain through Sunday with cool nights and comfortable afternoons. Lows most mornings will be in the 40s, but by Sunday afternoon temperatures will reach the 80s.

NEXT WEEK: Dry weather continues; sunny warm days and fair nights with highs generally in the 80s. Long range guidance from the GFS hints our next chance of showers and storms will come around May 11. See the Weather Xtreme video for the maps, graphics, and details.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes.
