Little to no change in the drought conditions across much of the U.S. Terrible drought, categorized as exceptional, continues across the Southern Plains and along the West Coast.

For Alabama, even though we received rain yesterday, much of the last week was dry. This has allowed areas across the Tennessee Valley to continue to dry out. Abnormally dry conditions are being reported in Lauderdale, Colbert, Franklin, Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, Morgan, Jackson, and DeKalb counties. Last week’s analysis had 5.32% of the state suffering from these conditions. This week, another 3.54% of the state was added, for a total of 8.86% of the state in abnormally dry conditions. As of now, all the very dry weather remains limited to the Tennessee Valley of the state.

Also last week, abnormally dry was the only category showing up in Alabama. This week, moderate drought conditions are back in Alabama and at this time, are confined to the far northwestern part of the state, affecting much of Lauderdale County, as well as portions of Limestone and Colbert counties. The moderate drought conditions amount to 2.12% of the state.

With little to no rain in the forecast the next seven days, we are likely to see abnormally dry conditions expand across the state.
