Happy Dad’s Day!

| June 15, 2014 @ 2:35 pm

A special hats off to all the dads out there. You made us who we are, taught us about bikes and ball and fishing, and helped us navigate the storms of life, showing us where the rocks were. Here’s to you dads!

SPECIAL DELIVERY WEATHER: Dads all over are getting neckties and golf clubs, but the Weather Office decided to splurge all get all you dads some real summertime weather. Father’s Day 2014 will feature partly cloudy skies with warm sunshine pushing the mercury into the upper 80s generally, and only isolated showers and storms cooked up by the heating of the day. Humidity levels will be high, as one would expect, with dewpoints in the muggy upper 60s.

EARLY AFTERNOON CHECK: A check of the early afternoon weather across Alabama reveals only fair weather cumulus clouds across the state. A handful of isolated showers had developed by 1:30 in disparate areas of the state. They were moving north northeast. Temperatures were climbing through the 80s. Highs over the Northwest and the South Central parts of the state will top out near 90F, with upper 80s elsewhere.

FORESHADOWED FORECAST: The previous paragraph gives a hint that more warm weather is in store for Central Alabama. The factor giving us the hot weather will be a ridge of high pressure currently centered over Georgia that will be flexing its muscles and expanding its influence over the Southeast. It will hold strong through the rest of the work week ahead, beginning to break down by Friday or Saturday. Til then, the forecast will be rather singsong: partly cloudy skies, slightly hot high temperatures in the lower 90s, muggy overnight lows in the lower 70s, and only widely scattered afternoon thundershowers that die out slowly during the evening.
