FEELING GOOD: As advertised, a dry, continental airmass now covers most of Alabama, and we are starting the day with temperatures mostly in the upper 50s and low 60s. Cooler spots early this morning include Russellville with 54, and Valley Head with 55 degrees. The day ahead will feature sunshine in full supply with low humidity and a high only in the low to mid 80s. A very nice fall preview.

Early tomorrow, we project a low in the 57-61 degree range… for Birmingham this will mean a new record low if the forecast verifies since the current record for July 17 is 62 set in 1965. Both the NAM and the GFS are printing 59 degrees for Birmingham at daybreak tomorrow. The day tomorrow will be sunny, humidity values will remain low, and the high should be in the mid 80s.

FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: Looks like the bulk of the rain will stay west of Alabama on Friday, so we will just mention an outside risk of a shower late in the day. Expect a partly sunny sky with a high in the upper 80s Friday afternoon. Then, deeper moisture arrives for the weekend, and there will be a risk of showers and thunderstorms both Saturday and Sunday. The rain won’t be continuous, and like all summer days the rain distribution won’t be even, but many places will see over one inch of rain over the weekend.

The sky will be mostly cloudy both days with highs in the mid 80s.

We will mention scattered showers and storms each day through next week with a mix of sun and clouds… temperatures will creep back up toward the 90 degree mark. See the Weather Xtreme video for the maps, graphics, and more details.

GULF COAST WEATHER: A passing storm is possible this morning along the coast from Panama City to Gulf Shores, otherwise mostly sunny weather is likely today and tomorrow. Then, for Friday and the weekend, about 5 to 7 hours of sunshine each day with scattered showers and thunderstorms. Highs will be in the upper 80s, and the sea water temperatures are generally in the mid 80s.

TROPICAL WEATHER: All remains very quiet across the Atlantic basin, and tropical storm formation is not expected through the weekend.
