Radar Getting Active

| August 9, 2014 @ 12:12 pm

As expected today, we are seeing showers and storms across Alabama, and at this time, additional storms are developing throughout the state. The very warm and moist air mass in place across the state is providing ample fuel for today’s convection. Through the rest of the afternoon, we will be seeing numerous showers and storms develop and impact Central Alabama.

Though no storms are currently severe, some are packing a punch. Expect heavy rain, a lot of lightning, gusty winds, and very loud thunder. We are watching these storms today as some will be strong, and there is a possibility of an isolated severe cell. The storms today are being driven by northwest flow, and that means the convection today is generally moving from northwest to southeast.
