RADAR CHECK: Scattered strong storms, as expected, have formed across the great state of Alabama this afternoon. Some of the heavier ones at mid-afternoon were over Blount and St. Clair Counties in East Alabama, and over Marengo and Hale Counties of West Alabama. Storms are producing lots of lightning, gusty winds, and very heavy rain as they move east/southeast.

A flash flood watch was issued earlier for the Auburn/Opelika areas of Lee County, where over three inches of rain produced flooding making some roads impassable for a while.

We will maintain the risk of showers and storms across the state tonight, ahead of a cold front.

TOMORROW: The weather trends drier. We will still mention a chance of widely scattered showers and storms, but as dew points fall the chance of organized rain gets smaller; the high tomorrow will be in the 87-90 degree range.

DRY DAYS WEDNESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY: Sure looks like four consecutive days with no chance of rain for the northern two-thirds of Alabama as dry air settles in. We expect a good supply of sunshine each day Wednesday through Saturday with lower humidity and cooler nights. The low will drop into the low 60s early Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday morning, with potential for upper 50s across cooler valleys of North Alabama. Yet another very nice preview of fall. Highs will remain between 87 and 90 degrees.

We will introduce a small risk of a shower or storm Sunday afternoon as moisture returns, but widespread rain is not expected.

NEXT WEEK: We go back into a wetter pattern early next week with tropical moisture returning, and short wave energy move in from the west. See the Weather Xtreme video for the maps, graphics, and details.

GULF COAST WEATHER: About 6 to 8 hours of sunshine tomorrow with a few scattered storms from Panama City over to Gulf Shores, then mostly sunny days and fair nights with only a slight risk of a shower Wednesday through Saturday. Highs on the immediate coast will be in the upper 80s, with sea water temperatures mostly in the mid 80s.

TROPICS: The disturbance in the far eastern Atlantic will have a pretty hard time in coming days as it moves west/northwest due to very dry air. If it happens to develop, most likely this one will pass north of the Leeward Islands and won’t be a Gulf of Mexico threat. Again, see the maps and graphics on the Weather Xtreme video.
