RADAR CHECK: Nothing on the radar across Alabama this morning, but a moist airmass remains in place with dew points in the low 70s.

We expect a few widely scattered showers and storms to form this afternoon as another summer cold front pushes in our state from the north. The chance of any one spot getting wet is about one in five, and the best chance of showers will come after 12:00 noon. Today’s high will be somewhere between 87 and 90 degrees for most communities.

DRY DAYS: Tonight cooler and drier moves down into the northern half of the state, and we still project rain-free weather for North and Central Alabama tomorrow through Saturday. Expect mostly sunny days, fair cool nights, and low humidity. Highs will be mostly in the upper 80s, with early morning lows down in the low 60s early Thursday and Friday morning. A good chance some of the cooler valleys across North Alabama will visit the upper 50s, a very nice preview of fall.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: No rain Saturday with a mostly sunny sky, but moist air returns Sunday, and a few scattered afternoon showers or storms will be possible. Highs over the weekend should be pretty close to 90 degrees.

NEXT WEEK: Showers and storms become more likely Monday and Tuesday as moisture levels continue to rise, and short wave energy impacts our state. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

GULF COAST WEATHER: A few scattered showers and storms will form this afternoon on the coast from Panama City over to Gulf Shores with about 5 to 7 hours of sunshine. Then, expect mostly sunny days tomorrow through Saturday with only widely scattered showers. Highs on the immediate coast will remain in the upper 80s, and the sea water temperature early this morning at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab is 85 degrees.

TROPICS: A disturbance in the eastern Atlantic is moving west/northwest, and won’t be able to develop in the short term due to very dry air surrounding the system. The rest of the Atlantic basin is very quiet.
