ON THE RADAR: A broken band of showers and thunderstorms is over North Alabama this afternoon ahead of a cold front pushing into the Tennessee Valley…

The showers are moving southeast, and will fade quickly this evening as drier air takes over.

REST OF THE WEEK: Looks great for the northern two-thirds of our state, with sunny days, lower humidity levels, and cooler nights. Highs will be in the 87-90 degree range, with lows down in the low 60s. Some of the cooler spots could reach the upper 50s for a nice fall preview.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Looks like we stay dry Saturday with a good supply of sunshine and a high at or just over 90 degrees. Moisture levels begin to rise Sunday, and a few scattered afternoon showers or thunderstorms will be possible.

NEXT WEEK: Showers and storms become more likely Monday and Tuesday, with moist unstable air in place and short wave energy involved. See the Weather Xtreme video for the latest maps, graphics, and more details.

GULF COAST WEATHER: Looks very nice through Saturday from Panama City over to Gulf Shores, with mostly sunny days, fair nights, and only isolated storms. Highs on the immediate coast will remain in the upper 80s, and sea water temperatures are in the mid 80s.

TROPICAL WEATHER UPDATE: The guys at NHC have given up on Invest 94L in the Atlantic due to the very dry air surrounding the system, and for now they do not expect any tropical development in the Atlantic basin over the next five days.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
