FINE SUMMER DAY: Sure doesn’t feel like the middle of August in Alabama today thanks to low humidity levels and temperatures below average.

Temperatures

Tonight will be unseasonably cool. We project a low in the low 60s for most communities, but the cooler spots will easily reach the 50s. Birmingham’s record low for August 14 is 54 degrees set in 2004 in the wake of Tropical Storm Bonnie and Hurricane Charley, which passed to the east of here. It will feel just like fall.

TOMORROW THROUGH THE WEEKEND: The weather stays dry through Saturday with sunny days, low humidity levels, and pleasant nights. Moisture levels begin to rise Sunday, and we will bring in the risk of scattered, mostly afternoon and evening showers or thunderstorms. The high tomorrow will be in the mid to upper 80s, and then expect a high close to 90 for Friday and the weekend.

NEXT WEEK: Showers and storms will become more numerous across the state early next week with a deep layer of moisture in place and short wave energy involved. See the Weather Xtreme video for the maps, graphics, and more details.

GULF COAST WEATHER: Mostly sunny days and fair nights for the coast from Panama City to Gulf Shores through Saturday with only isolated showers. Scattered showers and storms will be a little more active Sunday into early next week, but even then a decent amount of sunshine is likely.

TROPICS: Dry air air covers much of the Atlantic basin, and tropical storm formation is not expected through the weekend.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
