Pleasant Tonight; Hotter Afternoons Ahead

| August 14, 2014 @ 2:55 pm

**No afternoon Weather Xtreme video today; I am live on ABC 33/40 News at 4, 5, and 6:00 from a function to benefit United Cerebral Palsy in downtown Birmingham**

ANOTHER DANDY DAY: Temperatures remain well below average this afternoon across Alabama, with temperatures generally in the mid 80s at mid-afternoon…

Temperatures

Tonight will be much like last night, and just like fall with temperatures falling into the 58-62 degree range at most locations. The coolest observation around here this morning was a refreshing 52 degrees at Black Creek, just northeast of Gadsden in Etowah County.

TOMORROW THROUGH THE WEEKEND: As you might expect, heat and humidity levels will be on the rise; this is mid-August after all. Tomorrow and Saturday will be mostly sunny; the high tomorrow will be in the 87 to 90 degree range, with low 90s possible Saturday afternoon. We will introduce the risk of a few isolated showers or thunderstorms Sunday afternoon, but for now it looks like they will be few and far between.

NEXT WEEK: Showers and storms will be more likely Monday and Tuesday as moisture deepens, but they thin out again Wednesday through Friday thanks to an upper ridge building across the region. Highs will be around 90 Monday and Tuesday, but mid 90s are likely over the latter half of the week… a good reminder we still have some hot weather left this summer.

GULF COAST WEATHER: Mostly sunny weather continues on the coast tomorrow and Saturday with only a slight risk of a shower from Panama City to Gulf Shores. Then, Sunday through much of next week expect about 6 to 8 hours of sunshine each day with a few scattered storms around. Highs remain in the upper 80s on the immediate coast, with sea water temperatures mostly in the mid 80s.

TROPICS: A healthy wave is emerging off the African coast in the far eastern Atlantic, but due to dry air development is not likely, and tropical storm formation is not expected in the Atlantic basin through the weekend.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
