RADAR CHECK: A few isolated showers have formed over East Alabama as of 3:30 this afternoon… the are showing little movement. Isolated showers and storms will remain possible through the evening hours, but most places will stay dry on this hot August day. Temperatures are mostly in the mid 90s…

Temperatures

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Not much overall change; highs will be in the mid to upper 90s tomorrow, with low to mid 90s Sunday. The risk of a storm tomorrow afternoon is only about 15 percent for any one given location. We continue to see evidence that afternoon storms could be a little more numerous Sunday, especially over North and East Alabama, but they will still be scattered in nature.

NEXT WEEK: Scattered showers and storms will increase statewide on Monday, and the weather won’t be as hot with a high around 90 degrees as the upper ridge weakens. Tuesday and Wednesday look relatively dry, but showers and storms increase again Thursday as a cold front approaches. Looks like a chance we see lower humidity levels by Friday of next week with cooler nights thanks to a nice upper trough moving through the eastern third of the nation. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and details.

GULF COAST WEATHER: A fine weekend ahead from Panama City over to Gulf Shores with sunny days, fair nights, and only very isolated showers. Next week will feature about 7 to 9 hours of sun each day with widely scattered thunderstorms. Highs on the immediate coast will be from 87 to 91, with mid 90s inland. Really too early for a specific Labor Day weekend forecast, but for now we don’t see any unusual weather for the coast.

TROPICS: The disturbance on the northern coast of Hispaniola is expected to develop into a tropical storm over the weekend; it is no threat to the Gulf of Mexico, and most models recurve this one out in to the open Atlantic, but those along the Atlantic coast of Florida will need to keep an eye on this one just in case. The rest of the Atlantic basin is quiet.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
