LOWER HUMIDITY: A fairly pleasant late August weather pattern will set up across Alabama through mid-week thanks to a dry airmass in place. We project mostly sunny days and fair nights through Thursday with low humidity and comfortable early mornings. Some of the cooler pockets across Northeast Alabama could visit the upper 50s at daybreak tomorrow. Afternoon highs will be close to 90 degrees, right at seasonal levels for this time of the year.

Moisture levels will begin to rise late this week, and a few spots could see an afternoon shower, but the latest GFS looks pretty dry. Low 90s are likely Friday afternoon.

LABOR DAY WEEKEND: Moist, unstable air will be in place, and we will forecast a mix of sun and clouds Saturday and Sunday with the risk of scattered showers and thunderstorms, especially during the afternoon and evening hours. No wash-out, but a passing storm is very possible both days with a high between 87 and 91 degrees. Scattered storms should become fewer in number on Monday as the upper ridge begins to rebuild across the region.

GULF COAST WEATHER: Mostly sunny days, fair nights through Thursday from Panama City west to Gulf Shores. Then, for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, about 5 to 7 hours of sunshine each day with the risk of scattered thunderstorms. Storms become fewer in number by Monday. Highs on the coast will be in the 87-90 degree range, and the sea water temperature early this morning at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab is 81 degrees.

TROPICS: Cristobal is a minimal hurricane in the Atlantic, and will pass between the U.S. East Coast and Bermuda tomorrow as it moves north; then it turns northeast out toward the North Atlantic. No threat to land. And, in the Central Atlantic, a weak disturbance is about halfway between the coast of Africa and the Lesser Antilles. This is surrounded by dry air, and the models have pretty much lost it for now. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps and graphics.
