NICE LATE SUMMER DAY: Under a sunny sky, temperatures are generally in the 87 to 91 degree range across the great state of Alabama this afternoon. Birmingham reports 88 degrees at 2p CT with a dew point of 61, which is very comfortable for late August in our state.

Temperatures-5

Tonight will be pleasant; most communities will see a low in the mid 60s early tomorrow, but some of the cooler pockets across Northeast Alabama could see upper 50s.

Looks like we stay dry tomorrow through Friday with mostly sunny days and fair nights. Highs in the low 90s, lows in the 60s. Models keep trending dry on Friday, so we have taken out that small risk of an afternoon shower for now. Looks like rain-free weather for the high school football games across the state Thursday and Friday night.

LABOR DAY WEEKEND: Moisture returns, and we will mention the risk of scattered showers and thunderstorms Saturday through Monday with a mix of sun and clouds each day. Highs 87 to 90, and the risk of any one spot getting wet each day is in the 30-40 percent range. No wash-out, but just be aware a passing shower or storm is possible if you have something planned outdoors.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Auburn kicks off their season Saturday with a home game against Arkansas at Jordan-Hare Stadium at 3:00. The sky will be partly sunny, and there is about a one in three risk of a shower or thunderstorm during the game. Kickoff temperature near 88, falling into the low 80s by the final whistle.

Alabama will play West Virginia in the Georgia Dome, so no rain worries for the game; as you walk to the game expect a mix of sun and clouds with a brief shower or thunderstorm possible in Atlanta during the afternoon and evening hours. The high in Atlanta Saturday will be in the upper 80s.

UAB opens with a home game against Troy State at Legion Field in Birmingham (11:00 a.m. CT kickoff)… partly sunny with 86 degrees at kickoff, rising into the upper 80s by the fourth quarter. A passing shower or thunderstorm is possible during the game.

GULF COAST WEATHER: Mostly sunny days, fair nights from Panama City west to Gulf Shores through Thursday. Then, for Friday and the holiday weekend, about 5 to 7 hours of sunshine each day with the risk of scattered thunderstorms. Highs on the immediate coast will be in the 87-90 degree range, with sea water temperatures mostly in the mid 80s.

TROPICS: Hurricane Cristobal is packing sustained winds of 75 mph, and will pass west of Bermuda tomorrow on the journey to the North Atlantic. No threat to land. We will watch a disturbance over the NW Gulf of Mexico and the Central Atlantic, but both are very disorganized for now and immediate development is not expected. See the Weather Xtreme video for the maps, graphics, and more details.
