An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player on the right sidebar of the blog. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

DRY THROUGH FRIDAY: Feels pretty good early this morning; Vic Bell, our Skywatcher at Black Creek, just northeast of Gadsden, reports 58 degrees at daybreak… up the road Fort Payne is at 61. Don’t expect much change in our weather through the end of the week, with mostly sunny days and fair nights. Highs in the low 90s, lows mostly in the 60s as dry air remains in place.

LABOR DAY WEEKEND: Moist air returns, and with the approach of an upper trough we will bring in a chance of showers and thunderstorms Saturday. This looks like the day with the highest coverage of rain; any one spot stands a 50/50 chance of seeing one or two showers or thunderstorms during the day. We will have more clouds than sun, and the high will drop into the 80s.

Then, for Sunday and Monday, expect a mix of sun and clouds both days with scattered, mostly afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms. Highs will be in the 87 to 90 degree range on these two days. See the Weather Xtreme video for the maps, graphics, and details.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: No rain for the high school games tomorrow and Friday night; the sky will be mostly fair with kickoff temperatures in the upper 80s.

Auburn kicks off their season Saturday with a home game against Arkansas at Jordan-Hare Stadium at 3:00. The sky will be mostly cloudy, and there is a 50/50 risk of a shower or thunderstorm during the game. Kickoff temperature near 86, falling into the low 80s by the final whistle. The rain won’t be continuous, but I would take the rain gear.

Alabama will play West Virginia in the Georgia Dome, so no rain worries for the game; as you walk to the game expect a mix of sun and clouds with a shower or thunderstorm possible in Atlanta during the afternoon and evening hours. The high in Atlanta Saturday will be in the mid to upper 80s.

UAB opens with a home game against Troy at Legion Field in Birmingham (11:00 a.m. CT kickoff)… mostly sunny with 86 degrees at kickoff, rising into the upper 80s by the fourth quarter. A passing shower or thunderstorm is possible during the game.

GULF COAST WEATHER: Mostly sunny days and fair nights through Friday from Panama City over to Gulf Shores with only a small risk of a storm. Then, clouds will increase Saturday with a few passing showers or storms possible. On Sunday and Monday expect about 5 to 7 hours of sun both days with scattered storms. Highs will stay in the 87 to 90 degree range on the immediate coast; the sea water temperature early this morning at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab is 82 degrees.

TROPICS: Hurricane Cristobal is packing sustained winds of 80 mph, and is between the U.S. Atlantic coast and Bermuda. It will move northeast into the North Atlantic in coming days and is no threat to land. The rest of the Atlantic basin is pretty quiet now.
