PLEASANT MORNING: Another nice morning; we have low 60s at places like Cullman and Fort Payne; the sky is clear and the air is dry. Look for a good supply of sunshine today and tomorrow with a high in the 90-94 degree range. We will mention just a slight risk of a shower tomorrow afternoon.

LABOR DAY WEEKEND: Moist air surges northward into the state Saturday, and we will forecast a chance of showers and thunderstorms; the day will feature more clouds than sun. There are actual considerable model differences; the GFS is much wetter than the NAM, and as usual the truth is probably somewhere in between. The rain won’t last all day, and the sun will be out at times. Just understand if you have something planned outdoors, you will have to dodge a shower or two. The high Saturday will be in the upper 80s for most communities.

A few showers and thunderstorms are still possible Sunday and Monday, but they should be fewer in number and more scattered in nature. The sky will feature a mix of sun and clouds both days, with highs generally between 88 and 91 degrees.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: No rain for the high school games tonight… only a small risk of a shower tomorrow evening; the sky will be mostly fair with kickoff temperatures in the upper 80s.

Auburn kicks off their season Saturday with a home game against Arkansas at Jordan-Hare Stadium at 3:00. The sky will be mostly cloudy, and there is a 50/50 risk of a shower or thunderstorm during the game. Kickoff temperature near 86, falling into the low 80s by the final whistle. The rain won’t be continuous, but I would take the rain gear in case a shower wants to roll through the Plains.

Alabama will play West Virginia in the Georgia Dome, so no rain worries for the game; as you walk to the game expect a mix of sun and clouds with a shower or thunderstorm possible in Atlanta during the afternoon and evening hours. The high in Atlanta Saturday will be in the mid to upper 80s.

UAB opens with a home game against Troy at Legion Field in Birmingham (11:00 a.m. CT kickoff)… mostly cloudy with 86 degrees at kickoff, rising into the upper 80s by the fourth quarter. A passing shower or thunderstorm is possible during the game.

AT THE BEACH: Mostly sunny today with only a slight risk of a shower from Panama City to Gulf Shores. Then, for tomorrow and Saturday about 3-6 hours of sun each day with a few passing thunderstorms. Sunshine will be a bit more plentiful Sunday and Monday with storms becoming more widely spaced. Highs on the immediate coast will be in the upper 80s, and the sea water temperature early this morning at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab is 83 degrees.

TROPICS: Hurricane Cristobal is on the way to the North Atlantic and no threat to land. A disturbance in the far western Gulf will move into the southern tip of Texas this evening with no development, and another weak wave is moving into the Caribbean with no sign of organization. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.
