CHANGES AHEAD: Another dry day for Alabama… the last time Birmingham had more than 0.05″ of rain was back on August 19. The sky is partly to mostly sunny with temperatures around the 90 degree mark in most places.

LABOR DAY WEEKEND: Moist air surges northward tonight, and we will bring back the chance of showers and thunderstorms to our state tomorrow. It won’t rain all day, and the sun should be out at times, so no “wash-out”. But, clearly a risk of a passing shower or thunderstorm will exist at just about any hour of the day. The sky will feature more clouds than sun, and the high will be in the upper 80s in most communities.

Showers and storms are still possible Sunday and Monday, but they should be more scattered in nature, and mostly during the afternoon and evening hours. Expect a mix of sun and clouds both days with a high around 90 degrees.

NEXT WEEK: Looks pretty hot for early September with highs in the low to mid 90s much of the week as the upper ridge rebuilds; afternoon showers and storms will be widely scattered. See the Weather Xtreme video for the maps, graphics, and details.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Just a few isolated showers across North/Central Alabama tonight; most high school stadiums will be dry. Temperatures will fall through the 80s during the games, reaching the 70s by the fourth quarter.

Auburn kicks off their season tomorrow with a home game against Arkansas at Jordan-Hare Stadium at 3:00. The sky will be mostly cloudy, and there is a 50/50 risk of a shower or thunderstorm during the game. Kickoff temperature near 86, falling into the low 80s by the final whistle. The rain won’t be continuous, but I would take the rain gear in case a shower wants to roll through the Plains.

Alabama will play West Virginia in the Georgia Dome, so no rain worries for the game; as you walk to the game expect a mix of sun and clouds with a shower or thunderstorm possible in Atlanta during the afternoon and evening hours. The high in Atlanta tomorrow will be in the mid to upper 80s.

UAB opens with a home game against Troy at Legion Field in Birmingham (11:00 a.m. CT kickoff)… mostly cloudy with 86 degrees at kickoff, rising into the upper 80s by the fourth quarter. A passing shower or thunderstorm is possible during the game.

AT THE BEACH: About 3-6 hours of sun tomorrow with a few passing thunderstorms in the zone from Panama City over to Gulf Shores. Sunshine will be a bit more plentiful Sunday and Monday with storms becoming more widely spaced. Highs on the immediate coast will be in the upper 80s, and sea water temperatures are mostly in the mid 80s.

TROPICS: There are no active tropical cyclones anywhere on Earth now, which is a bit unusual considering this is the peak of the tropical season.

Cristobal is now a post-tropical system over the North Atlantic, and disturbances over the northwest Gulf and Caribbean remain disorganized.
