DRY OCTOBER WEATHER PATTERN: This is a month known for comfortable, dry weather, and that pretty much sums up our weather for at least the next seven days, and probably longer. Thankfully we had the big rain event earlier this week, so we can enjoy it.

We expect sunshine in full supply today and tomorrow; today’s high will be close to 70, and then we warm to near 80 tomorrow afternoon. The humidity will be low, and the visibility will be excellent.

OUR WEEKEND: A fresh supply of cool, dry air arrives Saturday, and that will knock highs back into the low to mid 70s. Coolest morning should come early Sunday, with the low will be in the mid to upper 40s.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Doesn’t get any better for the high school games this week; no lightning worries with a clear sky tonight and tomorrow night. Temperatures will fall through the 60s, reaching the 50s in some stadiums by the fourth quarter.

Saturday, Alabama hosts Texas A&M at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa (2:30p CT kickoff). The sky will be sunny; 75 degrees at kickoff, upper 60s by the fourth quarter. No risk of rain.

The UAB Blazers are on the road; they play at Middle Tennessee State in Murfreesboro Saturday (2:30p CT kickoff). Again, a perfect day for football with a sunny sky. Temperatures will fall from near 70 at kickoff, to near 62 by the final whistle.

RACE WEEKEND: Sunny pleasant days, fair cool nights at the Talledega Superspeedway through the weekend. Afternoon highs Saturday and Sunday will be in the low to mid 70s. Don’t think you could ask for better weather for NASCAR fans.

TROPICS: Hurricane Gonalzo is a major hurricane (category four) in the Atlantic, with sustained winds of 150 mph, and the eye is expected to pass just west of Bermuda tomorrow. Then it recurves out to sea; no threat to the U.S. mainland.

Over in the Pacific, Tropical Storm Ana could become a minimal hurricane briefly before passing just south of the Big Island of Hawaii this weekend.

REST OF OCTBER: The GFS really shows no significant chance of rain for the rest of the month here. It continues to develop a tropical system in the far Southwest Gulf of Mexico next week, which moves northeast, perhaps impacting southern Florida. See the Weather Xtreme video for the maps, graphics, and more details.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
