DRY DAYS: What a beautiful afternoon; a sunny sky with temperatures mostly in the upper 60s and low 70s. Dry air, no rain. Tomorrow will be another mostly sunny day with a warmer afternoon; the high will be in the 77 to 80 degree range.

OUR WEEKEND: A new surge of cooler air arrives Saturday, and will set a really nice weekend with sunny pleasant days and clear cool nights. Highs over the weekend will be mostly in the low 70s, with temperatures early Sunday reaching the mid 40s. Some of the cooler pockets over Northeast Alabama might reach the upper 30s.

The pleasant fall weather continues into early next week; in fact the GFS model really doesn’t show a decent chance of rain through the rest of October. This is our driest month of the year, so long dry spells are not that unusual.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Doesn’t get any better for the high school games this week; no lightning worries with a clear sky tonight and tomorrow night. Temperatures will fall through the 60s, reaching the 50s in some stadiums by the fourth quarter.

Saturday, Alabama hosts Texas A&M at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa (2:30p CT kickoff). The sky will be sunny; 74 degrees at kickoff, upper 60s by the fourth quarter. No risk of rain.

The UAB Blazers are on the road; they play at Middle Tennessee State in Murfreesboro Saturday (2:30p CT kickoff). Again, a perfect day for football with a sunny sky. Temperatures will fall from near 69 at kickoff, to near 62 by the final whistle.

RACE WEEKEND: Sunny pleasant days, fair cool nights at the Talledega Superspeedway through the weekend. Afternoon highs Saturday and Sunday will be in the low to mid 70s. Don’t think you could ask for better weather for NASCAR fans.

TROPICS: Gonzalo is a dangerous, category four hurricane with sustained winds of 145 mph, it will pass very close to Bermuda during the daytime hours tomorrow. Then, it recurves into the North Atlantic, with no impact on the U.S. mainland.

In the Pacific… Tropical Storm Ana could become a minimal hurricane tomorrow; it is expected to pass south of the Big Island of Hawaii Saturday.

GULF COAST WEATHER: An easy forecast; sunny pleasant days, fair cool nights through next week. Highs in the 75-80 degree range, lows mostly in the 60s from Panama City over to Gulf Shores.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
