Chilly Night Ahead

| October 22, 2014 @ 3:10 pm

**No afternoon Weather Xtreme video today; I am live in Leeds at the Atrox haunted house on ABC 33/40 News at 4, 5, and 6:00**

COOL NIGHT: The coolest temperature so far this season, based on data from the Birmingham Airport, is 42 degrees measured on October 5. Look for a low very close to that early tomorrow, and as you might expect, we will see 30s across the color valleys of North Alabama. Places like Valley Head and Black Creek might even see a light freeze. The sky will be clear, and the wind will be light.

TOMORROW THROUGH THE WEEKEND: Not much change; a very dry airmass stays in place, and we will forecast sunny days and clear nights with a slow warming trend. The high tomorrow will be in the upper 60s, followed by low 70s Friday, and upper 70s Saturday and Sunday.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Clear and cool conditions for high school games Friday night; temperatures will fall from the upper 60s at kickoff into the upper 50s by the fourth quarter.

Saturday is a big football day in Birmingham with the Magic City Classic at Legion Field, featuring Alabama State and Alabama A&M. The sky will be sun filled (2:30p CT kickoff); 76 degrees at kickoff, with mid 60s by the final whistle. There is no risk of rain.

Auburn will host South Carolina Saturday evening at Jordan-Hare Stadium (6:30p CT kickoff)… the sky will be clear, with temperatures falling from the upper 60s at kickoff into the upper 50s by the fourth quarter.

Alabama is on the road; they take on the Tennessee Volunteers Saturday evening in Knoxville (6:30p CT kickoff). The sky will be clear with a kickoff temperature near 62 degrees, falling into the 50s by the second half.

UAB plays on the road at Arkansas in Fayetteville Saturday (11:00a CT kickoff)… expect a sunny sky with a kickoff temperature near 77 degrees, rising into the low 80s by halftime. No risk of rain.

NEXT WEEK: Still looks dry; more than likely our next significant rain event will come in early November.

TROPICS: Tropical Depression Nine could become Tropical Storm Hanna before making landfall on the Yucatan coast early tomorrow. This system will move eastward, and should emerge into the western Caribbean this weekend. Remains to be seen if it can survive the journey over land, but we will keep an eye on it.
