Slow Warming Trend Ahead

A FEW HIGH CLOUDS: A layer of high, thin cirrus clouds is moving into North Alabama this afternoon; these clouds are thin, and up at 20,000-25,000 feet. I don’t think they will be too much of an issue for the partial solar eclipse that begins at 4:54 this afternoon… in fact those cirrus clouds should give the sky a very nice texture for the unique sunset with an partial eclipse in progress.

TOMORROW AND THE WEEKEND: Sunny days, fair nights, and no rain with a slow warming trend. The high Sunday will be close to 80 degrees.
We stay dry Monday and Tuesday of next week, but a few scattered showers could show up Wednesday and Thursday ahead of a cold front. Doesn’t look like a major rain event, and a new surge of cool, dry air arrives at the end of the week on Friday (October 31). Some hints from the GFS model it could be the coolest air so far this season.
FOOTBALL WEATHER: Clear and cool conditions for high school games tomorrow night; temperatures will fall from the upper 60s at kickoff into the upper 50s by the fourth quarter.
Saturday is a big football day in Birmingham with the Magic City Classic at Legion Field, featuring Alabama State and Alabama A&M. The sky will be sun filled (2:30p CT kickoff); 75 degrees at kickoff, with mid 60s by the final whistle. There is no risk of rain.
Auburn will host South Carolina Saturday evening at Jordan-Hare Stadium (6:30p CT kickoff)… the sky will be clear, with temperatures falling from around 70 degrees at kickoff into the upper 50s by the fourth quarter.
Alabama is on the road; they take on the Tennessee Volunteers Saturday evening in Knoxville (6:30p CT kickoff). The sky will be clear with a kickoff temperature near 65 degrees, falling into the 50s by the second half.
UAB plays on the road at Arkansas in Fayetteville Saturday (11:00a CT kickoff)… expect a sunny sky with a kickoff temperature near 77 degrees, rising into the low 80s by halftime. No risk of rain.
GULF COAST WEATHER: Sunny days, fair nights through the weekend from Panama City west to Gulf Shores. Highs mostly in the 70s, and lows in the 50s and 60s. Low 80s are possible by the weekend.
TROPICS: The Atlantic basin is quiet; tropical depression nine dissipated last night over the Yucatan Peninsula.
