Cold, Dry Weather For Thanksgiving

| November 26, 2014 @ 3:18 pm

**No afternoon Weather Xtreme video today; we are on a holiday schedule through Sunday, so just one video per day**

RADAR CHECK: We note a few echoes on radar this afternoon over Northwest Alabama, but that isn’t reaching the ground because the air is so dry. This clipper type feature has the potential to bring a sprinkle or two to the northern third of the state tonight, but most Alabama communities stay dry. Temperatures this afternoon are mostly in the 50s.

NORTHEAST U.S. STORM: The snow/rain event across the Northeast U.S. will wind down late tonight… At mid-afternoon FlightAware reports more than 3,000 flights delayed and more than 600 canceled.

THANKSGIVING DAY: Colder air blows in here late tonight, and we are still foresting a sunny but cold Thanksgiving Day, with a high only in the 45-49 degree range; that is about fifteen degrees below average for late November. Then, tomorrow night, a freeze is likely with temperatures dropping into the mid to upper 20s at daybreak Friday.

FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: The weather stays dry. Friday will be cool with a sunny sky and a high in the low 50s, but we expect low 60s Saturday, and mid to upper 60s Sunday as a nice warming trend begins.

IRON BOWL: Doesn’t get much better. For the 6:45p CT kickoff in Tuscaloosa Saturday, we project a fair sky with temperatures in the upper 50s, falling slowly into the low 50s by the final whistle.

NEXT WEEK: The weather stays mild with afternoon temperatures well up in the 60s for the first half of the week; we might consider a slight risk of a shower Monday north of Birmingham. A decent rain event is shaping up toward the end of the week (around Friday December 5) with thunderstorms possible.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
