CHILLY THANKSGIVING AFTERNOON: Birmingham’s average high for November 27 is 61… we aren’t even close to that level today. In fact, some North Alabama communities aren’t out of the 30s at mid-afternoon… Haleyville and Fort Payne are reporting 39 degrees at 2p CT. We are seeing mostly mid 40s elsewhere; clouds have been hanging tough over the northern half the state, while South Alabama has enjoyed a sunny sky.
A freeze is likely tonight; we project a low somewhere between 25 and 30 degrees early tomorrow… some of the coldest valleys could see low 20s. Tomorrow will be another cool day; expect a good supply of sunshine with a high in the low 50s.
WARMER WEEKEND: Expect a weekend warm-up… we reach the low 60s Saturday, and upper 60s are likely Sunday. No rain Saturday, and while a front will be north of Alabama Sunday, the air looks too dry for any significant chance of rain at this point.
IRON BOWL: Doesn’t get much better. For the 6:45p CT kickoff in Tuscaloosa Saturday, we project a fair sky with temperatures in the upper 50s, falling slowly into the low 50s by the final whistle.
NEXT WEEK: Mild weather continues through the week with highs generally in the 60s. A stalled front north of Alabama should mean the best chance of showers will be over Arkansas and Tennessee… just a small risk of a shower over far North Alabama early in the week. The GFS has taken the idea of a late week rain event off the table; it shows just a weak front moving through on Saturday December 6 with a few showers.
