Nice Late November Warm-up

We saw a nice warm-up yesterday and overnight thanks in part to both an increasing southwesterly flow aloft and the increase in moisture with the cloud cover. Morning temperatures were in the 50s this morning, a far cry from the 20s and 30s yesterday morning. There was some fog out there, but the fog remained patchy with no fog advisory needed. As we close out November, what was a fairly chilly month as average monthly highs and lows were a good 4 degree below climatological value will end on a somewhat warm note with highs today in the upper 60s, about 5 to 7 degrees above the daily 30-year average for the 30th of November.

The weather pattern for the next week will be characterized by a somewhat zonal flow aloft with embedded short wave impulses that will lead to a frontal boundary coming into the Tennessee River Valley. With the main storm track well to our north, the front will lose its southward push and wash out in the vicinity of North Alabama and Tennessee, but there will be fairly sharp temperature contrast across the front to our north. Rain chances on Monday and early Tuesday will be small.

The weather remains warmer than our typical values by about 5 to 7 degrees as we head into December thanks to the nearly zonal flow aloft that will have a slight southwesterly component. This will keep the presence of clouds in our sky.

Another approaching front by the end of the week will introduce rain chances back into the forecast for the first weekend of December. Right now the chances for rain appear to be small, but there are fairly substantial model differences so the confidence out to next weekend is not good.

The pattern becomes more active and has a colder look as we head out into voodoo country. By the time we get to December 14th, the GFS is showing a old core upper low affecting the Southeast US. If this comes to pass, it could mean some winter weather for some locations in the Southeast US, but this is way out in voodoo land, so it is much too early to make a serious forecast for that time period yet.
