COLD FRONT OVER FLORENCE: As expected, we have a huge temperature contrast across the region this afternoon. Memphis is at 37; Montgomery is at 77. The front is right on top of Muscle Shoals… temperatures have fallen into the 40s at Waterloo, in the northwest corner of Lauderdale County, but the rest of North/Central Alabama is enjoying temperatures around the 70 degree mark.

The front will stall somewhere near a line from Hamilton to Hartselle to Scottsboro late tonight, where temperatures will turn colder with readings in the low 40s early tomorrow.

We note a few widely scattered showers across the Tennessee Valley this afternoon; we will maintain the risk of showers near the front tonight, generally north of U.S. 278 (Hamilton to Cullman to Gadsden).

REST OF THE WEEK: The front to the north will begin to move northward and lose it’s identity tomorrow; the day will feature more clouds than sun, and a few isolated showers are possible across North Alabama, with rain most likely over the Tennessee Valley. For places like Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, Anniston, and Gadsden, the high will be close to 70 degrees again, with cooler temperatures near the Tennessee border.

Wednesday and Thursday look mild and dry with a mix of sun clouds both days, and a high between 68 and 71 degrees. Then, a wave will bring the risk of showers to the northern half of Alabama Friday afternoon and Friday night. Rain amounts with this feature won’t be too heavy with limited moisture.

OUR WEEKEND: Still mild; highs Saturday and Sunday will be in the 60s, and for now the chance of rain looks pretty low both days with mixed sun and clouds.

Some evidence the air will be a bit cooler over the state next week, with highs dropping into the 50s, and lows in the 30s in the 7-15 day period, but still no sign of any extremely cold, Arctic air blasts. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.
