WELL INTO THE 70s: Looks like Birmingham will just miss a record high today (warmest so far at the Birmingham Airport is 75)… but for Anniston and Tuscaloosa, their 2 pm readings were already tying the record highs. The record high for Anniston is 75 degrees which was set in 1982. And in Tuscaloosa, the record is 76 set in 1961.

FYI… the warmest December temperature on record for Birmingham is 80 degrees, recorded on December 7, 1951.

Temperatures

Nothing on radar this afternoon, and we should stay dry tonight.

SHOWERS RETURN: Clouds thicken across the state tonight, and tomorrow will be a mostly cloudy day with some risk of widely scattered showers. Showers are more likely tomorrow night, mostly over the northern third of the state. Tomorrow will be another warm day with a high between 70 and 75 degrees.

A few periods of rain are likely Saturday, but it won’t rain all day, the rain won’t be especially heavy, there is no risk of severe weather, and I doubt if we hear much thunder. Rain amounts for North/Central Alabama should be under 1/2″, and many places will get under 1/4″. Saturday’s high will be in the mid to upper 60s.

DRIER SUNDAY: Showers move out of the state late Saturday afternoon, and Sunday promises to be a nice day, with ample sunshine. The day will be a bit cooler with a high between 60 and 65.

SEC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME: No weather worries with the Alabama/Missouri game played in the Georgia Dome, outside Saturday in Atlanta the sky will be cloudy with some rain at times; the high Saturday afternoon will be in the low 60s. Sunday will be dry and a bit cooler with a high between 57 and 60.

NEXT WEEK: The weather looks quiet. A bit cooler, with highs between 56 and 60, and lows between 38 and 42 most days. The week looks generally dry, although we might consider a small risk of a shower late in the week. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.
