Much of the state of California continues to suffer from exceptional drought conditions, however, there has been very beneficial rain the last week. In Texas, recent rains continue to help conditions improve. The exceptional drought conditions there are only affecting northern portions of Texas and into Oklahoma.

For Alabama, locations across the Tennessee Valley continue to be in the best shape with no drought conditions being reported. Abnormally dry conditions are affecting 63.85% of the state this week, which is the same as last week. Last week, moderate drought was occurring in 12.61% of the state, this week, it increased to 14.76% of the state. These conditions are south of the Interstate 20 corridor.

We also continue to see severe drought conditions persisting in Clay and Tallapoosa counties, as well as southern Mobile and Baldwin counties. These conditions in these locations add up to 3.39% of the state.

The monitor was released on Thursday and since then, very beneficial rains have occurred throughout the state, and we should see improving conditions by the release of next week’s monitor.
