COOL, DRY DECEMBER WEATHER: After morning clouds, the sky is clearing across our state this afternoon, and temperatures are below average for December 8 (average high today is 58)… most places are in the low 50s at mid-afternoon. Nothing showing up on radar, and we expect no rain around here through the weekend.

CHILLY MID-WEEK WEATHER: We are forecasting a sunny, but windy and cool day tomorrow with north winds averaging 10-20 mph and a high in the mid 50s… then by Wednesday many communities will struggle to get out of the 40s with a new surge of colder air dropping in from the north.  Looks like our coldest morning will come early Wednesday with a low in the 28-32 degree range for most.

Thursday will be another cool day with a high in the low 50s, but a warming trend begins Friday afternoon as we rise to near 60 degrees. Dry air means no chance of rain, and few clouds.

OUR WEEKEND: Very pleasant for the middle of December. We expect sunny days, fair cool nights; highs in the low 60s Saturday and Sunday, with lows in the mid to upper 30s.

NEXT WEEK: An upper trough west of the state will bring the next chance of rain; the last few GFS runs have suggested the best chance of rain comes late Monday night into Tuesday morning. And, still no sign of any extremely cold, Arctic air blasts for the state for the next 10 days based on global model runs.

LOOKING BACK AT NOVEMBER:  Data released yesterday from NCDC (National Climatic Data Center) shows both Alabama and Mississippi experienced their second coldest Novembers on record this year, based on data going back to 1895. In Birmingham the average temperature in November was 48.9 degrees. This was 5.5 degrees below normal and was the eighth coldest November for the city since 1896.
