An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player on the right sidebar of the blog. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

CHILLY DECEMBER DAY: Despite a good supply of sunshine through scattered clouds, we won’t get out of the 40s today thanks to a surge of colder air moving in from the north. This is about ten degrees below average for mid-December, and by early tomorrow we project a low in the 25-29 degree range for most North/Central Alabama communities.

Cool weather continues tomorrow with a high around 50 degrees, but a warming trend begins Friday afternoon as we rise into the upper 50s. Dry air means no rain, and a sunny sky both days.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Dry air stays in place, and we expect a good supply of sunshine Saturday and Sunday. The high Saturday will be close to 60, followed by low to mid 60s Sunday. Early morning lows will be in the mid to upper 30s.

NEXT WEEK: The GFS continues to suggest our next chance of rain will come Monday night, in the general time frame from 6:00 p.m. Monday through 6:00 a.m. Tuesday. Data continues to show rain amounts of under 1/2 inch, and while some thunder is possible, severe weather is not expected. The middle of the week will be dry, and another wet weather system shows up at the end of the week around Friday December 19.

CHRISTMAS FORECAST? No, there is no real skill in a specific forecast beyond seven days, so nobody knows what the weather will be like on Christmas Day in Alabama this year, but global model output still doesn’t show any “Arctic blast” potential at this point. On an average basis, temperatures will be close to seasonal values for December through December 25…

I will be helping with the ABC 33/40 “Home for the Holidays” Habitat for Humanity house build this morning in Clay… then on to Mount Laurel Elementary in Shelby County. Then, this evening I will be live at the Walmart on Highway 150 in Hoover for a Toys for Tots event. Will try and squeeze in a new Weather Xtreme video by 4:00 or so this afternoon. Enjoy the day!
