CHILLY DAY: Despite a decent amount of sun today, temperatures across North/Central Alabama are only in the upper 40s at mid-afternoon, about ten degrees below average values for mid-December. We expect a pretty decent freeze tonight; lows early tomorrow between 25 and 29 degrees are expected with a clear sky and light wind.

DRY THROUGH THE WEEKEND: Cool air stays in place tomorrow with maximum sunshine and a high around 50, then we warm into the mid 50s Friday, and low 60s Saturday and Sunday. Dry air means no rain, and sunny days and clear nights.

NEXT WEEK: A wave will bring the next chance of rain to Alabama Monday night; still looks like the main chance of wet weather will come from about 6:00 p.m. Monday through 6:00 a.m. Tuesday; moisture will be limited so at the moment it looks like rain amounts will be generally under 1/2 inch, and there is no threat of severe weather with weak dynamic forcing and very little surface based instability. The sky becomes partly sunny Tuesday afternoon, and highs hold in the 50s with no real cold air behind the system.

The GFS continues to suggest the next rain event comes around Friday December 19, or Saturday December 20.

CHRISTMAS? Way too early to be specific about weather on Christmas Day; global ensembles hint we could see a change to colder temperatures by then, still no firm evidence of any bitterly cold air at this point. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and details.
