COOL AND DRY THROUGH MID-WEEK: Alabama’s weather won’t change much through Thursday. Dry and cool; highs in the 50s, lows in the 30s, right at seasonal averages for the middle part of December. We expect a mix of sun and clouds both days; we might consider a slight risk of a shower Thursday afternoon as moisture begins to return, but for now the chance of any one spot getting wet looks very small.

NEXT RAIN EVENT: Clouds will thicken during the day Friday, and rain will move into Alabama from the southwest Friday afternoon. That rain becomes widespread Friday night and into at least a part of the day Saturday as a surface low moves across South Alabama. At this time we expect rain amounts close to one inch, and no threat of severe weather. The rain will end from west to east Saturday afternoon as the low moves northeast into Georgia. Afternoon highs Friday and Saturday should remain in the 50s.

Sunday will be a dry day for the state, with sunshine through scattered clouds and a high in the mid to upper 50s.

CHRISTMAS WEEK: Dry weather continues Monday with a partly sunny sky and a high between 55 and 60. A cold front will pass through the state late Tuesday and Tuesday night, but with limited moisture it looks like rain amounts will be very light and spotty; the system is a “clipper” that originates in Canada, and rarely brings deep moisture.

Wednesday looks colder and dry with a high between 45 and 49 degrees, then for Christmas Day on Thursday expect a partly sunny sky with a high in the 50s. For now we see no reason to forecast any chance of precipitation; sorry snow fans. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.
