A Benign Weather Pattern For Alabama

CALM LATE JANUARY WEATHER: While places like Boston will be digging out from their big blizzard that is still raging this morning, our weather will be pretty quiet for the rest of the week. Temperatures are near the freezing mark early this morning, but we expect a high in the low to mid 50s today with a mix of sun and clouds. Tomorrow will feature sunshine in full supply with a high in the mid 50s.

A clipper will pass well north of Alabama Thursday; that might drag some clouds into the far northern part of the state, but the air will be very dry, and I really think the chance of a shower is so small that we can drop it from the forecast. Again, the high will be in the 50s Thursday afternoon.

Friday will be another dry day, with ample sunshine and a high in the mid 50s.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: It begins with a sunny sky Saturday morning, but clouds will move in Saturday afternoon ahead of the next storm system to the west. Temperatures will reach the mid to upper 50s Saturday afternoon. Then, wet weather returns Sunday with a good chance of rain throughout the day; the high will be in the 50s once again. Looks like rain amounts of around 1/2 inch will be likely, with isolated totals to one inch. No severe weather threat, just rain.

NEXT WEEK: Colder air drops into the state Monday following the rain; a few snow flurries are not out of the question for the Tennessee Valley of far North Alabama, but it looks like a no impact situation.

Another weather system could potentially bring rain back to Alabama at mid-week Wednesday or Thursday; it will be cold rain, but for now the atmosphere looks too warm for any winter weather mischief. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.
