Active Weather Pattern

A few forecast notes early this Sunday afternoon…

*The most widespread rain early this afternoon is over the eastern half of Alabama…

*Another organized wave of rain and thunderstorms will roll through the state later this afternoon and tonight; SPC has even defined a “marginal” severe weather threat for parts of West Alabama…

The air is cool and pretty stable, so the risk of severe storms is pretty small, but some locally heavy rain is certainly possible with the heavier thunderstorms. Rain will begin to fade away after midnight tonight.

*Tomorrow will be breezy and much colder; a few morning snow flurries are possible, but no impact with surface temperatures above freezing and the deeper moisture off to the east. We won’t make it past the low 40s tomorrow… many communities north of Birmingham will stay in the 30s all day.

*There is very little confidence in the specific forecast of the next weather system to impact Alabama Wednesday night and Thursday. Some global runs have hinted at the chance of a little snow over the northern quarter of the state Thursday morning, but there has been no good consistency in this idea. Rumors you might be hearing of a “big snowstorm” in Alabama Thursday are all bogus.

*If you really want to see some snow, head north. Chicago is under a blizzard warning, and the heavy snow will move east through Cleveland, Pittsburgh, New York City, and Boston over the next 36 hours.
