Cold, Blustery Day For Alabama

RADAR CHECK: While the big rains have moved east of our state, we have a little drizzle showing up on radar over Northeast Alabama this morning. As colder air blows in here, snow flurries are possible through mid to late morning mostly east of I-65 and north of I-20, but there will be no impact with temperatures above freezing, and the deeper moisture off to the east.

Temperatures will just hover in the 37-42 degree range throughout the day, and a strong northwest wind will make it feel colder. Look for gradual clearing this afternoon as drier air begins to move into the state.

TOMORROW/WEDNESDAY/THURSDAY: Tomorrow morning will be cold; most communities will see a low in the 21-25 degree range, with potential for upper teens across the colder valleys. Then, with sunshine in full supply, we rise to a high near 50 degrees tomorrow afternoon.

Wednesday will be dry, with a mix of sun and clouds and a high in the mid to upper 50s. Clouds will thicken Wednesday night, but it looks like North/Central Alabama will be left out of any really significant precipitation.

A disturbance in the southern branch of the jet stream will spin up a surface low in the Gulf of Mexico, but the rain shield with that feature will stay mainly over the southern quarter of Alabama. And, a wave in the northern stream could bring some light snow or snow flurries to far north Alabama late Wednesday night or Thursday morning. No impact expected with temperatures above freezing, and very limited moisture.

Thursday will be a colder day with a high in the 40s; the sky should begin to clear during the afternoon hours.

FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: These three days look very nice, with warmer afternoons. We reach the upper 50s Friday, and highs over the weekend should be up in the low to mid 60s. Friday and Saturday will be sunny; the sky Sunday will feature a mix of sun and clouds.

LONG TERM: No sign of any invasion of really bitterly cold air for the southern U.S. through mid-February. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.
