When it comes to outages, the most important one is the one at your house. As Alabama Power strives to serve 1.4 million customers, we recognize that every service interruption is an inconvenience – and even more so when the temperatures are extreme. While we aren’t anticipating a significant number of additional outages from the cold, we will be ready to minimize those ordinary outages that can occur.

As you know, winter weather can be tricky to forecast. We will be monitoring those shifts in the forecast throughout the upcoming event, and will take the appropriate steps to ensure we are able to meet the need. That might mean:

· Having crews come in early to avoid travel issues, and being on standby.
· Installing snow chains or other equipment.
· Shuffling crew assignments, bringing in extra personnel from other areas of the state.

Whatever steps are required, we will be able to scale up (or down) as the conditions change.

If you’re interested in some tips on how to prepare for winter weather, we have a free e-book you can download. You’ll find advice on how to get ready, be safe, and stay warm in as energy-efficient a manner as possible.

Finally, if you do end up experiencing an outage, we’ve expanded the ways you can reach us:

· Call our hotline, at 800-888-2726.
· Find us on Facebook or Twitter (reps are monitoring from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays, and 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekends).
· Use the Alabama Power app, available on iPhone and Android.
· Report it through the mobile site, at alabamapower.com.
