WeatherBrains 473: Shockingly Taller

| February 17, 2015 @ 5:15 am

WeatherBrains Episode 473 is now online (February 16, 2015). If you are crazy about weather, this is THE netcast audio program for you!

Gary McManusTonight’s Guest WeatherBrain is the State Climatologist for Oklahoma, Gary McManus. Gary has been with Oklahoma Climatological Survey since 1999, joining the Climate Information Group in 2000. Mr. McManus has B.S. and M.S. degrees in Meteorology from the University of Oklahoma. As a climatologist, McManus studies long-term weather statistics for the Oklahoma Climatological Survey. Although he is trained to forecast the weather, he said he often tells people he chose climatology because he is better at reporting what happened than predicting it.

Other discussions in this weekly podcast include topics like:

  • Extremes: 87 at McAllen, TX, Edinburg, TX, and Death Valley, CA, and -35 at Mount Washington, NH
  • A surface low moving through the Southeast US creating winter problems;
  • Boston having one of their snowiest years EVER;
  • Lots of winter weather advisories/warnings from East Tennessee into Mid-Atlantic states;
  • Nate facing a serious ice storm; and,
  • and more!
  • Our email bag officer is out yet again because of snow – what an excuse! But we promise she’ll be back eventually to update everyone on notes from our listeners.

    From The Weather Center:

    WeatherBrains 101: We see them nearly every day, and they are sometimes the thing that snags our interest in the atmosphere and weather. They are clouds. But what are they and where do they come from? This begins a multi-part segment on clouds.

    Listener SurveyListener Surveys: Okay, we continue to drive this topic into the ground, but we really do like to hear from you.
