The Big Rain Rodeo (See quiz at the end)

You may be getting tired of these long rain lists. If so, let me know. However, during these years of deficient rain I feel that there is a heightened interest in knowing how much occurred in your community. These reports are for the 24 hours ending at 7:00 this morning. Of course, almost all of it came down during yesterday’s big storms.

  1. Clay From Nashville says:

Nashville’s total 2 day rainfall total was 0.00″ but at least areas that needed rain got it. We are still running a 2 inch surplus of precip on the year.
    http://www.mtwcweather.com

  2. Dave says:

I’ll guess Mt. Leconte will have a low of 42

  3. Brad says:

    Guesstimate of 44…

  4. mmiklik says:

you know I don’t mind the rain roundup totals, since I try to help you.
As for the temp est. I would say 39.

  5. Mike Wilhelm says:

I’m going to say 40 for Mount Leconte. I wish I was visiting that location this weekend.

  6. Low for Mt. Leconte 51

  7. CRuss says:

Anyone have a total for Bluff Park? I have to stick my rain gauge into the ground, so I don’t leave it out all the time, not wanting to inadvertently step on it or mow (I know, about six times in last two years…) over it. I recently noticed that if I put the gauge out before an expected rain event, we don’t get a drop. When I forget, we get rain. So this time I deliberately left it on the shelf and we got a very nice soaking. I just don’t know how much.

  8. Dan says:

Mount Leconte: 41 Degrees for a Low.

  9. Garry says:

The higher elev lows were in the 50 last weekend with lows here in the mid to high 70′s. So with a cool down here I would think 38 maybe 40 on Mt. Leconte. Sounds like a good weekend to be back packing on the AT.

  10. Jennifer says:

    I will say 37

  11. Clint says:

“NOAA upgraded their hurricane season outlook yesterday; they are now projecting an 85 percent probability of an above-normal season… up from 65 percent in May.”

The politics of weather rears its head. Global warming yahoos just can’t believe that man made hurricanes are not destroying the Gulf Coast on a weekly basis. Alarmists predictions are the norm these days, I guess. I loved it the other day when James Spann commented on 570 WAAX about all the “dangerous heat warnings” as if this is something new. He said that as far as he can remember it has always been miserably hot this time of year.

  12. greg in homewood says:

    44 degrees.

  13. Julie says:

    43 degrees!

  14. Kirk says:

    46 degrees

  15. Matt Marshall says:

    45 on Mt. LeConte.

  16. nuttyoak says:

It will be a nippy 38!!!

  17. Ian (Alabaster) says:

    39 degrees

  18. Clint says:

    45 degrees

  19. chris t says:

    Keep the rain totals coming!!

  20. Tracy says:

I really appreciate this blog, and the rain fall totals in a drought,is like who gets a slice of cake and who doesnt!

  21. Michael Haynes says:

    48 Degrees on Saturday morning

  22. Ronald says:

Gonna guess 59 degrees for a low.

  23. npearman says:

CRuss – according to my rain gauge we got a little over an inch in Bluff Park. It all came down in a about 30 minutes.

  24. db says:

Hmmm – lets go for 43. JB mentioned andy griffith yesterday. Wow! An entire evening of Andy on TVland? The old outer limits or twilight zone ones can be interesting. Wish they would show some of the GetSmart ones (“would you belieeeeeeve?”). We enjoy seeing rain totals after last summers lack of rain. Thanks!

  25. db says:

We had 0.05 inches of rain, yesterday.

  26. Joseph says:

47 for a Low on Mt. Leconte.

  27. Charles says:

42 degrees take it to the bank!!

  28. ~Eddie~ says:

    I am going to guess 27, …. just kidding …. 42.
    ~Eddie~

  29. Lawrence Weedov says:

    MT.LECONTE LOW 53

  30. Michael D from Cookeville, Tennessee guesses the temperature reported on Mt. LeConte this weekend will be 44°….

Big storms here on Wednesday night did quite a bit of damage…we recorded just .49″ and got .46″ in just 17 minutes….alot of lightning and strong winds.

    http://www.cookevilleweatherguy.com

  31. Clay says:

    I say 44!

  32. Brian Nichols says:

I think the low will be near 35.

  33. Matt Padgett says:

    Hello J.B.,

I’ll go out on a limb and say 36 degrees for Mt. Leconte

  34. Uncle BM says:

I Would say it gets to 20 below zero. Just a quick educated guess

  35. J.B. Elliott says:

The official low atop Mt. LeConte this morning (Saturday) was 44. But remember, the little highly informal contest is for the duration of the “cool snap” So, the final answer could come Sunday morning or even Monday morning. A lot of you have been very close so far. If the contest was over now (and it may be) Greg, Brad and Clay hit it on the nose! A couple of other lows this morning…

    46 Boone, N.C.
    46 Mt. Mitchell, N.C

  36. Ryan William Syslo from Tuscaloosa says:

Well, of all my years of meterology and studying climatology… my guess is foe the low to reach about 13.7 Celsius. With the current summer solstice and the fact that it could rain sunday night it wont get too low. I love what y’all are doing on the weather blog and really look up to James. thanks for what y’all do and if it werent for the blog, i would have no reason to live. thanks 4 keeping me alive.

  37. Katie T says:

i think dat the low will be 45!!!!!!! will be a cutie night

  38. J.B. Elliott says:

Looks like a warming trend arrived early so the final answer for the coolest on Mt. LeConte will be Saturday morning’s low of 44. A lot of you were very close. Greg, Brad and Clay got it exactly. The prize is one frosted brown sugar cinnamon pop tart so I will send each one 1/3rd of a pop tart.

Good work everyone. I did not post my 39-degree estimate so I missed it by 5 degrees.

  39. Mike Wilhelm says:

I see that a lot of folks came pretty close. Great job Greg, Brad, and Clay!

  40. Add me to your list of 44′s boys!! (see post number #31) :)

  41. J.B. Elliott says:

Sorry about the oversight, Mike. So we have a four-way tie, Greg, Brad, Clay and Mike from Cookville.

So each one will get 14th of a delicious and delectable pop tart. Look for it in the mail.

  42. Asa Hobbs says:

omg wtf wat a geek dis person is down below me dostn american judicial laws forbid blah blah balh hu gives a fuk
