Instability values are rising, with surface based CAPE values over 1,000 j/kg in spots over the southern half of the state this afternoon.

Storms that move through during the next few hours will be capable of producing heavy rain, gusty winds, and frequent lightning. While the overall severe weather threat is low, we can’t rule out a warning or two, primarily for strong straight line winds.

TOMORROW THROUGH FRIDAY: The wet weather continues with occasional showers and storms. We are seeing evidence that instability values will be rising Thursday, and a few strong storms can’t be ruled out during the afternoon and evening hours. Friday will feature cooler air moving in from the east, but rain is still likely. Additional rain amounts of 2-4 inches are likely through Friday night, and we will need to monitor for possible flooding issues.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Unfortunately the morning GFS run has trended wetter for Saturday, and it looks like periods of rain will continue during the day with a high around 70. And, on Sunday, drier air works into the state and most communities will be rain-free.

Dry air returns early next week with rain-free weather Monday and Tuesday.
