SOGGY MARCH WEATHER: Rain is still falling early this morning across much of Alabama, especially the northern and western counties.

On the maps, a weak surface front is over Northwest Alabama; this front will become nearly stationary today, and periods of rain will continue through tonight. The rain won’t be continuous, but it could rain at any time today or tonight. And, the clouds will hang tough. The high today should be in the 67 to 70 degree range for most places.

TOMORROW AND FRIDAY: Pretty much the same story. A surface low is forecast to form west of the state, keeping us in a very moist environment. Temperatures will reach the low to mid 70s tomorrow, and there will be a touch of low level instability, so some thunder is certainly possible. But no severe weather is expected in Alabama; SPC has a “marginal” severe weather risk defined tomorrow and tomorrow night for parts of Louisiana and Southwest Mississippi.

An easterly flow will bring cooler air into Alabama Friday as rain continues; some communities near the Georgia border could hold in the 50s all day; elsewhere the high will be in the 60-65 degree range. Probably no thunder Friday with the cooler, more stable air in place.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: We will need to mention the chance of lingering showers Saturday. Again, no “all day” rain, but plan on getting wet at times if you will be outdoors. Then, finally on Sunday dry air returns and the day looks rain-free with a partly to mostly sunny sky. Expect a high between 70 and 73 degrees both days.

NEXT WEEK: The first half of the week looks dry and pleasant with a high in the low 70s Monday and Tuesday… dropping into the 60s Wednesday. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

I will be doing a program this morning at the Goddard School in Shelby County… then I will be at the BJCC for live weather on ABC 33/40 from the C-USA conference basketball tournament… then on to a kickoff party for the book “What Stands in a Storm” by Kim Cross; a remarkable account of the April 27, 2011 generational tornado outbreak.

I should be able to crank out a Weather Xtreme video this afternoon by 4:00… enjoy the day!
