WET THROUGH FRIDAY: Remember, March is the wettest month of the year with an average total of 6.10″ at Birmingham… so having wet periods like this is not too unusual. Radar this afternoon shows the heaviest rain over parts of East and Southeast Alabama, but clouds cover most of the state. Temperatures are mostly in the mid to upper 60s.

Scattered light rain is possible tonight, but rain shouldn’t be too widespread or heavy.

TOMORROW AND FRIDAY: Rain will increase in coverage and intensity again tomorrow afternoon and tomorrow night as low pressure develops west of Alabama. SPC has defined a “marginal” severe weather threat over parts of Louisiana and Southwest Mississippi, but we do not expect any severe storms in our state. Some thunder is possible, however, but storms should remain below severe limits. Temperatures reach the low 70s tomorrow afternoon.

A cool easterly flow sets up Friday, and rain continues. Communities near the Georgia border will hold in the 50s all day, low 60s are likely for Birmingham and the I-65 corridor, and mid to upper 60s are forecast over West Alabama. Additional rain amounts of 1-2 inches are likely between now and Friday night, probably not enough for significant flooding issues.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: We will mention the chance of lingering showers Saturday, especially during the morning hours. Clouds stay in place most of the day, and the high will be in the low 70s. Then, finally, on Sunday drier air drops in. The day looks rain-free with a partly sunny sky and a high around 70 degrees.

NEXT WEEK: We get a chance to dry out; the weather looks rain-free Monday through Wednesday with mostly sunny days and fair nights. Highs will remain generally in the low 70s. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.
