Drier Air Arrives By Saturday Night

| March 12, 2015 @ 2:10 pm

**No afternoon Weather Xtreme video today; we are in Greensboro for the First Alert Storm Team Tour… be sure and stop by and say hello if you are close by**

WATCHING RADAR TRENDS: Showers and storms have been slow to develop so far today; we see just a few patches of light rain over North and Central Alabama. However, as low pressure develops to the west, coverage of the rain should increase tonight and tomorrow.

The Storm Prediction Center has a couple of “marginal” severe weather risk areas south of here, but no severe storms are expected over North or Central Alabama.

Our forecast will highlight rain tonight and tomorrow, with additional amounts of 1 to 2 inches likely. Cooler air will move into the state from the east; many communities over East Alabama will hold in the cool 50s tomorrow. Birmingham’s high will be near 60, with mid 60s likely over the western side of the state. The cooler air will be stable, and I doubt if we hear much, if any, thunder.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: We will continue to hold on the risk of a few lingering showers Saturday morning, but expect some breaks in the overcast Saturday afternoon as drier air moves into the state. Then, we expect rain-free weather on Sunday with ample sunshine. Highs over the weekend will be pretty close to 70 degrees.

NEXT WEEK: Dry and pleasant weather continues Monday through Wednesday, with mostly sunny days and fair nights. Highs will be in the low to mid 70s Monday and Tuesday, and in the 60s Wednesday. Still looking at some rain late in the week ahead of a cold front, which promises to bring chilly air back to the Deep South around the weekend of March 20-21. Looks like the last 10 days of the month could very well bring colder than average temperatures to our state.
