Slowly Improving Weather For The Weekend

| March 13, 2015 @ 3:36 pm

**No afternoon Weather Xtreme video today**

CLOUDY, COOL, SHOWERY FRIDAY: As expected, cooler air moved into Alabama from the east today, and many communities from Birmingham east are only in the 50s, and some places near the Georgia border are barely out of the 40s with a very chilly east wind.

Occasional showers will continue tonight; heavier storms are possible over Southwest Alabama around Mobile where SPC maintains a “marginal” risk of severe thunderstorms.

THE WEEKEND: Sure looks like most of the showers will end in the 3:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. time frame early tomorrow; a few breaks in the overcast are possible later in the day with a high up in the low 70s. Then, Sunday looks rain-free with a partly sunny sky along with a high in the low 70s.

NEXT WEEK: The weather stays dry Monday and Tuesday with highs in the 70s. Then, the 12Z GFS is pretty aggressive, moving rain back into the state Wednesday. Rain will remain possible into Thursday, before drier and colder air returns late in the week on Friday.

At this point, no sign of any late season freeze threat for the next 10-15 days, but I fully expect at least one more freeze this season. Remember, the average date of the last freeze (at Birmingham) is March 26, and we have experienced a freeze as late as April 23.
