Central Alabama warmed into the upper 60s yesterday in spite of the clouds. Clouds and some patchy fog continue this morning, but we should be seeing sunshine by late morning and afternoon with highs warming into the upper 60s and lower 70s across Central Alabama.

We begin the work week with dry weather as a ridge replaces the general troughiness with afternoon highs climbing into the 70s. We should stay dry until the middle of the week when a weak short wave will move out of the southern Rockies across the Lower Mississippi River Valley. The short wave trough will bring back clouds and rain chances for the latter part of Wednesday and into Thursday. Temperatures drop back a tad into the 60s for highs with lows around the 50-degree mark.

The northern stream of the flow pattern becomes a bigger player in the overall pattern by Friday and Saturday as we once again see a trough dug out across the eastern US. This should bring some cooler air back into the picture with lows dipping back into the 30s while highs stay in the 50s and lower 60s. A weak disturbance in the southern stream could bring some clouds and rain chances back into the picture especially across the Gulf Coast and South Alabama by Sunday.

Looking out into Week 2 or voodoo country, the GFS shows a substantial ridge around the 25th. A strong trough is forecast to develop and move across the Eastern US around the 28th/29th which could bring a round of strong to severe storms and another taste of winter with a substantial cold shot.
