RADAR CHECK: A band of strong storms continues to move southward through Central Alabama at daybreak… they are producing heavy rain, frequent lightning, and gusty winds.

As the storms push south of here, the sky becomes partly sunny later this morning, and we will be rain-free this afternoon and tonight. We reach the low 70s today, and tonight will be cool with a low in the 45-50 degree range.

TOMORROW: We start the day with some morning sunshine, but clouds will increase by midday, and we will forecast a chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms by afternoon. Some of the storms late tomorrow could pack a punch, with gusty winds and some hail as the air becomes unstable. SPC has much of the state in a “marginal” severe weather risk…

Best chance of stronger storms tomorrow will come from about 3:00 until 9:00 p.m.

WEDNESDAY/THURSDAY: These two days will feature a mix of sun and clouds with warm afternoons… temperatures will be close to 80 degrees. A few scattered showers and storms could fire up, but they should be widely spaced, and a decent part of these two days will be dry. Best chance of showers will come during the afternoon and evening hours, but a late night or morning shower can’t be ruled out.

FRIDAY: We should reach the low 80s Friday afternoon with intervals of sunshine throughout the day. Then, a cold front will push a band of showers and storms in here late in the day into Friday night. For now the overall severe weather threat looks low.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Showers along the front should end early Saturday, with clearing and cooler conditions during the day. Many North Alabama communities won’t get out of the 50s Saturday, and by daybreak Easter Sunday morning colder pockets could reach the mid to upper 30s. Sunday will be a sunny day with a high in the 60s.

GULF COAST WEATHER: The weather won’t be too bad this week along the coast from Panama City west to Gulf Shores. We project about 7 to 9 hours of sunshine each day through Friday. There will be a risk of widely scattered showers and thunderstorms on a daily basis with highs in the 70s and lows in the 60s. The sea water temperature this morning at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab is a cool 63 degrees.
