An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player on the right sidebar of the blog. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

EARLY THIS MORNING: All is quiet across the great state of Alabama this morning; nothing on the radar at daybreak, and temperatures are in the 50s and 60s. The day will be mostly rain-free, with only a small risk of a shower through early afternoon. The high today will be in the 77-80 degree range.

ACTIVE WEATHER TONIGHT: The guys at SPC maintain an “enhanced” severe weather threat over Northwest Alabama, with the standard “slight” risk down to I-59, and a “marginal” risk as far south as Montgomery…

A few storms could fire up late this afternoon over Northwest Alabama, as early as 4:00 p.m… and this is where and when there is a low end tornado threat. Higher low level helicity values are north of Alabama, where tornado probabilities will be higher. Still, we will need to watch radar trends closely.

The core threat for the state will come from a band of storms along the cold front tonight in the form of hail, and strong straight line winds. The tornado threat along the front is not zero, but it is very small. The main window for the storms along the cold front will come from about 7:00 p.m. until 12:00 midnight… storms will weaken after midnight as they move south of I-20.

THE EASTER WEEKEND: Tomorrow will be a sun filled day, but temperatures will be cooler with a high in the 61-65 degree range. Sunday morning will be pretty chilly; most communities will see a low near 40, but colder valleys will drop into the 30s with a chance of some frost. Then, we warm to near 70 degrees Sunday afternoon with a good supply of sunshine.

NEXT WEEK: Moisture returns late Sunday night, and showers and storms are likely Monday. The rest of the week looks warm and unsettled with some risk of showers/storms every day…. for now it is hard to define the days with the best coverage of rain. Seems like there will be some risk of strong to severe storms late in the week with a dynamic system moving out of the Southern Plains. See the Weather Xtreme video for the maps, graphics, and more details.

GULF COAST WEATHER: Mostly sunny today from Panama City over the Gulf Shores with a high in the low 70s… a few scattered showers or storms are possible tonight and tomorrow morning, but otherwise the weekend will be dry with highs remaining in the low 70s. Next week looks pretty pleasant with only widely scattered showers and about 7 to 9 hours of sunshine each day. The sea water temperature early this morning at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab is 67 degrees.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
