EARLY THIS MORNING: We have a few scattered showers on radar across Central Alabama this morning… showers and thunderstorms become likely later today as moist air returns to the state.

It won’t rain all day, and no severe weather is expected, but a few passing showers and thunderstorms are likely with a cloudy sky and a high in the mid 70s.

TOMORROW THROUGH THURSDAY: An upper ridge builds over the region, and that should mean the warmest weather so far this year with afternoon highs up into the low, and maybe mid 80s. Moist air stays in place, but any showers and storms should be widely scattered, and mostly during the afternoon and evening hours (much like summer). Each day should feature a decent amount of sunshine.

While we enjoy the summer-like weather, severe storms are likely across parts of the nation’s mid-section Wednesday and Thursday, where dynamic support is much better.

FRIDAY: A surface low will pass well to the north of Alabama; it should be over Michigan Friday… dragging a surface cold front into Alabama. This will bring an increase in the number of showers and storms, but severe weather isn’t expected with the support so far north, and very low bulk shear values and weak wind fields. The high will drop back into the 70s Friday with clouds and rain at times.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: For now it looks mostly rain-free, with partly sunny days and fair nights Saturday and Sunday. Highs will be in the 75-80 degree range, with lows in the 50s. The chance of rain is so small we won’t mention it in the formal forecast.

Moisture comes back early next week with a chance of showers and storms on Monday, but again the severe weather threat seems low. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.
