Heat Burst!

| April 20, 2015 @ 12:28 am

Decaying thunderstorms over South Central Mississippi have caused a phenomenon we normally only see across the Plains: a heat burst.

As thunderstorms die, evaporating precipitation falling into dry air making the more dense that its surroundings. It sinks and heats by compression, drying at the same time.

When this air hits the ground, it spreads out causing strong winds. Temperatures rise and dewpoints drop rapidly. This happened at Jackson MS in the past hour.

This could reach over into Sumter County shortly. Interesting.
